Keeping the Mouth Healthy

Most people know that brushing their teeth is important to oral health. However, they may not understand just how important it is to their overall health. A healthy mouth is important, and even those who feel like they have nice teeth should make it a point to keep their teeth in good shape. This means getting into the right habits and using the right products for oral care.

Those who are missing teeth or who have weak teeth that may need to be replaced could opt for tooth implants, discussed later. Still, regardless of their current oral health condition, it’s important to adopt and keep up with healthy practices, such as those discussed below.

Brush at Least Twice a Day

First, realize that brushing just once a day is not enough. Most people will brush their teeth when they wake up in the morning or before they set off for the day. They want their mouth to feel fresh, naturally. However, it’s important to brush at least two times a day: upon waking and before going to bed at night. Brushing before bedtime helps to remove all of the day’s buildup on the teeth.

However, if possible, consider brushing three times a day. Brushing after lunch ensures even better care for the teeth. It also provides fresh breath after lunch, which can be important depending on what was on the menu.

Brush the Right Way

Next, it’s important to know how to brush the right way. Unfortunately, many people have not been taught to brush properly, which is almost as bad as not brushing at all. It’s important to take plenty of time and to use gentle circular motions, which can help to keep the teeth clean and to remove buildup on the teeth. You should also brush along the teeth and the gums to help reduce the risk of gum disease or to keep it from getting worse.

Floss Regularly

Flossing should be considered just as important as brushing, although it often plays second fiddle when people talk about oral health. They know that flossing is important, but it’s usually mentioned as something else to do, not something that’s just as important as brushing. However, flossing is one of the best ways to ensure that the mouth is clean and healthy.

It does more than just remove bits of food that get stuck between the teeth. It also helps to reduce plaque, stimulates the gums, and can help to lower inflammation. Flossing just once a day is generally enough to reap these benefits. However, some may find that flossing twice a day, after lunch and before bedtime, is the best option.

Remember to Brush the Tongue

Most people don’t realize that it’s important to keep the tongue healthy for oral health. Plaque can build up on the tongue just as it can on the teeth. This can cause bad breath, and it can lead to further oral health problems. When brushing the teeth, it is just as important to include the tongue.

Brushing the tongue can feel strange for those who have not done it before, and it may take some time to get accustomed to it.

Use Fluoride Toothpaste

The type of toothpaste a person uses can make a difference, as well. Too often, people just choose the cheapest toothpaste they can find or the first thing they see when they go to the grocery store. Others might only look for “whitening” toothpaste or certain flavors they like.

The most important thing to look for, though, is that the toothpaste contains fluoride. This is an important element for good oral health. It helps to fight against tooth decay and germs and can help to ensure a healthy mouth.

Use Quality Mouthwash

The right mouthwash can do more than just help to freshen the breath. It has the potential to help get down into the deep areas that brushing and flossing alone don’t reach. This can help to clean the mouth and teeth further. A good mouthwash can also reduce the amount of acid in the mouth. In some cases, it can help to remineralize the teeth, too. There are a lot of brands on the market, so consider asking the dentist for some recommendations.

Get Help for Serious Issues

Those who may have been lacking in their oral health care in their younger days may find that their teeth have problems as they get older. In some cases, they may decay and fall out. Other times, teeth could be knocked out because of accidents. In cases of those who are missing teeth, dental implants could be a good option. The sooner patients talk with a dental practitioner, such as EON CLINICS, about the possibility of tooth implants, the better.

Visit the Dentist Regularly

Those who have good teeth should visit the dentist regularly, just like those who have bad teeth. The dentist is there to provide proper cleanings, care, and procedures when needed. The dentist can also provide good advice on what else can be done to keep the teeth and the rest of the mouth in good condition. For most, it is good to visit the dentist at least once or twice a year, even if your teeth are in good condition.

Consider Implants for Missing Teeth

Sometimes, it may be too late to save certain teeth. They might already be missing, or they could be decayed and past the point of saving. In those cases, it could be a good idea to talk with the dentist about dental implants.

EON CLINICS specializes in tooth implants and can provide patients with more information on the various options that may be available to them. The clinic can determine who is a good candidate for dental implants, what needs to be done to improve candidacy, and more. The dentists can also take care of many different types of implants including single and multiple tooth implants, all-on-4 implants, and more.

Those who are interested should get in touch to learn more about EON CLINICS, setting up an appointment, and how it all works.
